How to Win #NaNoWriMo
In this video, I share my secrets to winning #NaNoWriMo: writing 50,000 words of a novel during the month of November.
Since I started writing in 2013, I've had eleven 50K+ months. Back in 2014 when I was still working my day job, I won NaNoWriMo. Writing 50,000 words in a month is totally doable — if you set yourself up for success.
The six secrets to winning NaNoWriMo are as follows:
1. Create structured blocks of writing time.
2. Know your key characters.
3. Know your story arc (the beginning, middle, and end).
4. If possible, have your story beats and research completed.
5. Create accountability.
6. Have fun.
In this video, explain the difference between plotting and pantsing and give you a behind-the-scenes look at my own novel-planning process. I share how I develop key characters, how I plan the overall story arc of my novel, and what I include in my story beats. You'll get to see inside my planning documents so you can get ideas for how to plot your novel.
